Who knows? Maybe they do have dirt like that on Rutherford or others. If those records are somehow now public it could be very enlightening. How does one go about finding out? Anyone know?

A practical lesson on shunning.
by strawberry cake intoday i decided to visit a friend of mine who i met when she was my study.
(she has no intentions of making a commitment, but still continues studying with old pioneer 'friends' of mine.
well it just so happens that these 2 sisters were there.

Good for you! I too have been in awkward situations with witnesses shunning me (even though I am not DF'd or DA'd, but everyone knows I joined another church after fading from the WT many years earlier). I agree that the best thing is to let them be the ones that act rudely. I am friendly and polite to them. Maybe it will make them ask themselves "Why does my religion demand that I act like an @#$%^&! to others?".

What teaching did you find unacceptable that made you question the WTS?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inthe selection of the society in 1919 as the faithful and discreet slave after jesus spent nearly 5 years observing them.
jesus must have had some good lsd.

R&R, Are you able to talk to him? I bet he would welcome contact with you, especially since no one else in his family has anything to do with him. Part of my family won't speak to me since I left the WT either, but I sure appreciate the ones I have.

What I Learned from Bro Lett's DC Talk
by Rohag inwhat i learned/derived from steven lett's dc talk (thanks again, ynot, for providing access to the .mp3 files!).
brother lett - or the committee that produced the talk - really loves food metaphors.well-dressed people, especially children, produce a good witness.if you're an apostate, chances are bad conduct/secret sin/moral depravity made you that way.
apostasy is usually founded on sin and rarely on conviction.the bible is an insufficient - or overly cumbersome - guide to godly conduct.

Re: "If you're an apostate, chances are bad conduct/secret sin/moral depravity made you that way. Apostasy is usually founded on sin and rarely on conviction." He's doing the best he can. If you can't attack the message, attack the messenger.

So true. I am reminded of a meeting I attending back when I was still a Witness. The circuit overseer was making the point that we should not allow ourselves to see or hear any information that was critical of the Watchtower or challenged our beliefs. Even though I was a good Witness, I knew that idea made our religion seem weak. I raised my hand and commented that this must be because we respect Jehovah and the Organization, not because we have anything to fear from a challenging argument, since we have the truth. I was surprised when the CO looked back at me with a skeptical look. It would be several more years before I finally left the WT, but I could see then that some things just didn't add up.

So, you blew your chance to go to college because of JWs? Don't give up!
by cabasilas ini got the jw "bug" as a teenager.
witnesses called at our door when i was nearly 11. my parents are deaf and i was the oldest hearing child, the default interpreter for them in that era before relay services and professional interpreters.
they had no interest in jws, but it started to spark an interest in me.

I too have gone back to college after quitting many years ago to "pioneer." I am on track to get my Bachelor's degree in December. It's 25 years late but worth even more to me now. For a long time I felt that my dream would never be realized and that it was too late for me. But now I feel that the advantages of going back and not giving up on this dream are many. For one thing, I know a lot more about who I am now than I did then. I know now what I want and what I am interested in. I also think it is important to get back some of what the Watchtower has taken from me in life. I can't control the fact that my siblings and their families won't speak to me anymore, but I can decide what educational opportunities I will pursue and what career I want for myself. There is a lot of satisfaction in getting back what I should have had all those years ago and trying to minimize the damage from the WTS.

The Company We Keep - Lifton's 8 points used by FEDs?
by Dogpatch ininteresting take on robert j. lifton's mind control marks, as now used by the feds??!!
can you trust truthout on stuff like this, or is it mostly sensational but not verifiable?.
randy.

Mrs. Fiorini
Unfortunately it is all too true and verifiable. After 9/11 the Bush administration made several decisions that allowed this situation to develop. It has become a major human rights problem in the world and has caused even some of our allies to criticize us. Human rights groups like Amnesty International have documented many of the abuses and have serious suspicions about more. They have been working for several years now to try to stop it. Much of this has been reported in the news and more information can be found out about it at various websites like Amnesty's. I am aware of this situation because I have volunteered with Amnesty International for the last several years. Human rights abuses that have occurred in connection with the United States "war on terror" have become one of their biggest priorities, I'm afraid. Several members of Congress have tried to push for a change of policy as well, but with limited success. I hope that with a change of presidential administrations these abuses will come to an end, but at this point we don't know for sure what the future will hold.

Welcome Sadfox. I hope you find this board a healing experience. As difficult as it is now, you have given your children a gift. By leaving yourself, you have opened the door for them to do so when they are ready. I hope it is soon.

memorial 2009
by heathen inanybody hear anything special about it ?
was talking to a witness last night and he mentioned there was some significance to next years memorial in regard to the 1975 date or there about that ended mans six thousand years from creation and now it has something also to do with jesus 33.5 years on earth .
just curious for more info that may be out there as this person suggested that the remaining remnant were very excited about it..........
-
Mrs. Fiorini
How is it that the "remaining remnant" are excited about this? Did they discuss it together at their "remaining remnant" convention? I have known several people over the years when I was a Witness who claimed they were of the anointed. They didn't even know each other and had no direct relationship with the GB.
